STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two graduate students in the Mississippi State University kinesiology department are providing a daily blog on the Southeastern Conference men's basketball tournament taking place Thursday-Sunday [March 9-12].
The MSU Bulldogs kick off tourney action against the University of South Carolina Gamecocks at noon (CST) Thursday.
Robert Zullo, an assistant professor of sports administration, said graduate students Tony Schmidt of Starkville and Katie Walden of Jackson are assisting SEC officials with media relations duties during the post-season event taking place this year in Nashville, Tenn. Both are pursuing master's degrees in sports administration.
When not working for the SEC, Schmidt and Walden will offer a daily behind-the-scenes look at the inner operations of the tournament through their blog (which is computer jargon for Web log). Students, faculty, alumni and fans may view their postings--or post comments or questions of their own--by visiting http://secchampionships.blogspot.com.
The blog project is a part of the MSU sports administration graduate program. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in the sports industry through classes in finance, law, management, marketing and other subject areas offered by the kinesiology department.
