STARKVILLE, Miss.--An intercultural festival on the Mississippi State campus Saturday evening [March 25] will showcase the nation of India.
The university's India Student Association is sponsoring a cultural extravaganza, "Maroon Vibes 2006," at Humphrey Coliseum. Activities will include a dinner 6-7 p.m.; cultural events, 7-9:30 p.m.; and a DJ party, 9:30-10:30 p.m.
Non-ISA members may purchase coupons for the dinner at the door, starting at 5:30 p.m.
"This event will bring the Indian experience to Starkville," said Lokesh Shivakumaraiah, president of the student group. "It will be a competitive, fun-filled, informative and colorful cultural festival--a perfect Indian safari for family and friends."
MSU students will be joined by counterparts from Vanderbilt University and the universities of Southern Mississippi, Alabama-Birmingham and Memphis for competition in performances reflecting Indian music, dance, arts, and fashion.
Special invited guests will include Starkville Mayor Dan Camp and Bill Kibler, MSU vice president for student affairs.
The program is designed to improve the student life of international students, while promoting a cultural exchange between domestic and international students, Shivakumaraiah said.
