STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State junior from Oneonta, Ala., is receiving a top scholarship from the National Panhellenic Conference Foundation.

Jennifer L. Hitt, a member of the university's Kappa Delta social sorority, recently was selected as the 2006 Elizabeth Ahlemeyer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholar. The $2,000 award recognizes academic excellence and outstanding service to local panhellenic councils.

Hitt currently serves as president of Mississippi State's Panhellenic Council, governing body for the university's six NPC and one multi-cultural sororities. The council is responsible for the promotion of scholarship, service and safety in each group, as well as among the Greek-letter community in general.

Hitt is a geosciences/broadcast meteorology major, MSU President's Scholar and member of the University Honors Program.

Established in 2002, the NPC Foundation's regional scholarship program works to recognize the academic achievements and extracurricular contributions of sorority leaders throughout the country. The Indianapolis, Ind.-based organization provides six scholarships each year.

The National Panhellenic Conference is an umbrella organization for more than two-dozen international women's fraternities and sororities.
