STARKVILLE, Miss.--Kappa Delta social sorority at Mississippi State University is organizing a series of fund-raising activities Feb. 27-March 4 as part of its 24th annual Shamrock Week observance.

Eighty percent of the proceeds will benefit the Sally Kate Winters Memorial Children Home in West Point. The remainder will be forwarded to Chicago, Ill.-based Prevent Child Abuse America, the national sorority's philanthropy.

Last year's campus efforts resulted in nearly $11,500 being donated to the Golden Triangle facility for child-abuse victims.

This year's MSU Shamrock Week includes a:

--Kickball tournament for 10-member teams, to be held Feb. 28-March 2 at the Starkville RecPlex in McKee Park. The registration fee is $100 per team.

--Bunko tournament, to begin at 11 a.m. on the 4th at the KD House on Robert Jones Dr. The entry fee is $35 for a four-person team or $10 per person.

--Jubilations Cheesecake sale by all sorority members. Available flavors include cheesecake supreme, sugar-free supreme, Southern caramel pecan, key lime, chocolate marble fantasy, and white chocolate.

Also scheduled during the week are pancake and faculty appreciation dinners.

Founded in 1897, the national KD organization began supporting PCAA in 1981 and launched its Shamrock Week events two years later. Over the years, more than $6 million has been raised--including more than $400,000 last year--to benefit child abuse prevention programs around the country.
