Contact: Sammy McDavid

The Joint Chiefs of Staff's vice director for strategic plans and policy will be the featured speaker Jan. 12 for the first 2006 program of Jackson's Executive Lecture Forum.

The luncheon program featuring Navy Rear Adm. William D. Sullivan begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Country Club of Jackson. "Military Strategy for the War on Terrorism" will be his topic.

Sullivan's visit is organized by the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies at Mississippi State University. While in Jackson, he also is to meet with state military leaders and members of the Mississippi Anti-Terrorism Task Force, among others. (He originally was scheduled to visit in early September, but chose to reschedule because of the state's unsettled situation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.)

A 1972 Florida State University graduate, Sullivan is responsible for the formulation of joint strategic plans, documents and studies on current and future military strategy, as well as for international negotiations. He also holds graduate degrees from Georgetown University and the National War College.

During earlier separate U.S. military actions in the Persian Gulf region, he commanded a guided missile destroyer and a guided missile cruiser.

While not public events, ELF luncheons are open to all interested members of the news media. To ensure adequate seating, representatives of attending news organizations are requested to contact the Radvanyi Chair office in advance at (662) 325-8406 or radvanyi@bellsouth.net.
