STARKVILLE, Miss.--A Mississippi State specialist in community counseling is being honored by the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.
Carl J. Sheperis recently received the professional organization's 2005 Outstanding Counselor Educator/ Pre-Tenure Award for excellence in scholarship, teaching and service. A member of the university faculty since 2000, he is an assistant professor in the department of counseling, educational psychology and special education.
Sheperis has focused his teaching and research in the assessment and treatment of adolescent behavioral disorders and psycopathology.
The University of Florida doctoral graduate currently is editing a textbook for the Prentice Hall company with J. Scott Young, a faculty colleague in the department's community counseling program. Titled "Research in Counseling: An Introduction to Quantitative, Qualitative and Single Subject Designs," their work will be released next year by the New Jersey-based international publisher of educational, technical and reference materials.
The Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision is the largest division of the national counselor education and supervision organization. Both levels of the accrediting body work to encourage publications on current issues, relevant research, proven practices, ethical standards, and conversations on related problems.
