STARKVILLE, Miss.--With the completion this weekend of Mississippi State's 2005 football season, the university will resume renovation work Monday morning [Nov. 28] on the former "Five Points" intersection area.
Part of an ongoing effort that will result in a landscaped greenspace to be known as The Junction, this latest phase of the project requires removal of two sections of existing pavement (see accompanying graphic). They include:
--Creelman Street from the Stone Boulevard intersection in front of Dorman Hall to Tracy Drive in front of the former intramural gymnasium--often called the "Tin Gym." Once the old pavement is removed, Creelman will be rebuilt closer to the front of Dorman and reconnected with Stone Boulevard.
As a result of the blocked roadways, pedestrians traveling from the center of campus to Dorman Hall and other buildings to its west will need to alter their routes. The new travel path now will go from Tracy along the eastern side of the "Tin Gym," turning right at the former outdoor swimming pool and on to Dorman and beyond. A new sidewalk will be constructed in time for the 2006 spring semester from the Tracy-Creelman intersection to Dorman Hall.
--The section of Lee Boulevard from its recent dead-end at B.S. Hood Street to the east parking lot entrance of the Leo Seal M-Club Building, as well as the entire south sidewalk along Lee from Hood to Tracy. Access to the east-side entrance and parking lot of the Seal Building will continue from Lee Boulevard. The west side of the building no longer will be accessible to vehicles, though foot travel will continue between the M-Club and demolition area.
