Approximately 90 students from Mississippi State and the state's community colleges will gather for a fall leadership conference at 9 a.m. Friday [Oct. 28] in the Parker Ballroom of the university's Hunter Henry Center.
Sponsored by the School of Accountancy, the inaugural event is designed to encourage interested college students to major in accounting. In addition to information on the career field, sophomore business majors from the various institutions of higher learning will have the opportunity to receive training in the development of leadership and career skills, according to Mark Lehman, MSU associate professor of accountancy.
Sara Freedman, dean of the College of Business and Industry, will open the event with welcoming remarks. President Charles Lee also is scheduled to take part during the daylong event.
A morning session will include three interactive team-building activities of some 50 minutes each.
Susan Bell, a business risk and assurance partner with the Ernst & Young public accounting firm in Atlanta, will deliver the keynote address at approximately 12:45 p.m. She also is Ernst & Young's coordinating partner for Delta Airlines, BellSouth and Southern Co. audits.
Afternoon presentations will include the following topics:
--"Is an Internship/Co-op in Your Future?"
