STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's annual series of seminars to update small business owners and certified public accountants on current taxation issues will take place from early November to early January.

Organized by the College of Business and Industry's Division of Business Services, the sessions are led by university accounting professors Danny Hollingsworth and Edd Milam. Hollingsworth directs the School of Accountancy, while Milam is coordinator of the school's graduate program in taxation.

During each of five two-day sessions, the veteran faculty members will explain recent tax rulings and legislation and update significant new developments. They also will examine current Internal Revenue Service-State of Mississippi issues, retirement and tax planning, ethics, and other related topics.

Because of Hurricane Katrina's devastating impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the December session is being relocated from Gulfport to Hattiesburg. Also because of the massive storm, "early bird' registration deadlines have been extended for the first four sessions.

Specific dates and locations for the daylong seminars include:

--Nov. 10 and 11, Delta State University's Ewing Hall, Cleveland. Oct. 27 is the registration deadline.

--Nov. 21 and 22, Jackson Hilton Hotel (East County Line Road). Nov. 1 is the registration deadline.

--Dec. 5 and 6, Memphis, Tenn., Hilton Hotel (Ridgelake Boulevard). Nov. 21 is the registration deadline.

--Dec. 12 and 13, Hattiesburg's Lake Trace Convention Center. Nov. 28 is the registration deadline.

--Jan. 5 and 6, MSU's McCool Hall, home of the College of Business and Industry.

Dec. 8 is the registration deadline.

A $225-per-person early registration fee covers materials, instructions and refreshments. No telephone registrations will be accepted, and forms postmarked after the individual deadlines will be charged a $25 late fee.

If space is available, walk-in participants may be accepted for the full $250 amount.

Accountants participating in the seminar may qualify for 16 hours of continuing professional education credit.
