STARKVILLE, Miss.--"In the Mood," "String of Pearls," "Fly Me to the Moon," and other classics will be featured Oct. 4 during a free performance by the 18-member Starkville/Mississippi State University Symphony Big Band.

The 6:30 p.m. concert on the NBC Bank plaza in downtown Starkville is co-sponsored by the bank and the MSU/Starkville Symphony Association. Music education department head Michael Brown will direct.

The program features guest artists Alphonso Sanders of Mississippi Valley State University on alto saxophone, along with MSU music education faculty members Sheri Falcone on woodwinds and Jason Baker on percussion.

The bank will provide chairs, popcorn and soft drinks for the hour-long session. The Main Street section directly in front of NBC will temporarily be closed to provide an area for dancers wishing to move to the sounds of Big-Band swing.

For more information about the event, telephone the music education department at (662) 325-3070.
