STARKVILLE, Miss.--Sixty Mississippi State students enrolled in various business programs are new members of Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society.
Founded in 1913, the organization recognizes top university scholars in academic programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Currently, its membership of more than 500,000 is spread among all 50 states and more than 175 countries.
Invitation to BGS membership is extended only to business majors in the top 7 percent of the junior class, top 10 percent of the senior class and top 20 percent of the graduate student (master's degree) class.
The MSU chapter was chartered in 1961 and is housed in the College of Business and Industry, one of the oldest of its kind in the Southeast.
Chapter officers for the 2004-05 school year included president Melissa Moore, an associate marketing professor, and vice president Robert Moore, an assistant marketing professor. For the 2005-06 year, Robert Moore will be president, while management professor Carol Lehman will be vice president.
College dean Sara Freedman is serving as national Beta Gamma Sigma president.
