Six engineering faculty recognized for outstanding achievements

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Six faculty members in Mississippi State's Bagley College of Engineering are recognized for outstanding achievements during the university's 2004-05 school year.

"It is a privilege to recognize the efforts of our engineering faculty," said college dean Kirk Schulz. "Their ability to balance research and teaching proves their commitment to the students and to achieving overall excellence for the university.

"I am proud of these who have received awards, and look forward to watching their continued success," Schulz added.

Those recognized include:

--Career Achievement Award, Julia Hodges, professor and head of the computer science and engineering department.

--Outstanding Engineering Educator, Robert Reese, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, and director of the department's Microsystems Prototyping Laboratory.

--Outstanding Engineering Researcher, Judy Schneider, assistant professor of mechanical engineering.

--Outstanding Instructional Papers, Jim Harden, professor and head of the electrical and computer engineering department; J.W. Bruce, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering; and Reese for a 2004 published report titled, "Cooperative and Progressive Design Experience for Embedded Systems."

--Outstanding Research Paper, Jim Fowler, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, for a 2004 published paper titled, "Wavelet-Based Coding of Time-Varying Vector Fields of Ocean-Surface Winds."
