STARKVILLE, Miss.--An eight-day workshop next month at Mississippi State will help prospective students prepare for careers in architecture.
The June 17-24 "Design Discovery" summer camp is offered annually by the university's College of Architecture, Art and Design. It is designed to give incoming freshmen and high school students age 16 or older a preview of architectural educational requirements.
Program officials said a major goal of the workshop is to simulate the information, skill and the intensity required for an architectural education, and provide clear insight into the practice of architecture. The experience allows participants to make an informed career decision about architecture and its related disciplines.
Dedicated faculty and high-caliber MSU students who work as camp counselors and instructors provide knowledge, experience and friendships that may be valuable to freshmen planning to enter the architecture program in the fall.
Design Discovery 2005 also is scheduled to coincide with the MSU Freshman Orientation programs of June 16-17 and June 24-25. Prospective students are encouraged to attend both the orientation program and the Design Discovery session.
Design Discovery registration will be held from 3-5 p.m. June 17 on the second floor of Giles Hall, which houses the architecture college. The total cost of the workshop is $500, which includes tuition and campus housing, and all but one meal.
All applications, including a $100 non-refundable filing fee, must be submitted before June 8. Residents of Leflore County and minority students may apply for one of a limited number of scholarships by requesting a scholarship application.
