STARKVILLE, Miss.--For the sixth consecutive year, Mississippi State is offering an intensive five-day workshop in the basics of floral design.
Professionals and amateurs who seek entry-level design skills are encouraged to apply early for the Aug. 1-5 campus sessions at the floral design studio located adjacent to the University Florist on Lee Boulevard.
The workshop fee is $400 for participants registering prior to July 12; $500 afterwards. The charge covers plant materials and floral supplies. (Participants are asked to bring their own tools, however.)
The 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily sessions will be taught by James DelPrince, MSU associate professor of floral design, and University Florist manager Lynette McDougald, as well as Tracy Proctor, owner of Designs by Tracy Proctor in Tupelo.
Conditioning cut plant materials, designing flowers-to-wear, constructing dish gardens, creating sympathy designs, and designing centerpiece arrangements are among the subjects to be covered.
The University Florist is a full-service, student-staffed business that serves as a major teaching component of the university's unique academic program in retail floristry management.
For more information about the workshop, contact DelPrince at (662) 325-3585 or e-mail jdelprince@pss.msstate.edu.
