STARKVILLE, Miss.--A leading industrial and commercial computer corporation is awarding scholarships of up to $10,000 each to five high school and two community college graduates enrolling this fall as engineering majors at Mississippi State.
Ridgeland-based Ergon-Diversified Technology Inc. annually recognizes academically talented students for hard work and determination through endowed awards the company established in the university's Bagley College of Engineering.
Ergon-DTI Scholarships vary in dollar value and are awarded to incoming MSU students. The community college transfers are receiving $8,000 individual scholarships for the two final years of study, while the entering freshmen are being awarded up to $10,000 each over four years of study.
A part of one of America's largest private corporations, DTI has acquired a reputation for design and manufacturing quality in the industrial and commercial computer industry since its founding in 1971. Primarily, DTI develops and fabricates products for communications, telephone, military, aerospace, and medical markets.
Students honored for the 2005-06 academic year include (by hometown):
CANTON--Robert D. McElmurry of Madison Central High School. The son of Phil and Laurie McElmurry will major in mechanical engineering.
GRENADA--Bradley D. Daigneault of Grenada High School. The son of Dr. David and Gail Daigneault will major in electrical engineering.
PERKINSTON--Michael L. Cassibry of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The son of Mark and Sandra Cassibry will be a mechanical engineering major.
SMITHVILLE--William K. Sumerford of Itawamba Community College. The son of Kenneth and Marilyn Sumerford will major in chemical engineering.
STARKVILLE--Amy K. Bullington, the home-schooled daughter of Dr. Stanley and Leanne Bullington who will major in industrial engineering.
TERRY--Matthew P. Kettleman of Clinton High School. Enrolled in chemical engineering, he is the son of Philip Kettleman of Clinton and Virginia Vandeventer of Terry.
WAVELAND--Health C. Hansell of St. Stanislaus High School. The son of Jeffrey and Claire Hansell will major in civil engineering.
