STARKVILLE, Miss.--Lisa Harris of Mississippi State is receiving a major career honor from the regional professional organization of registrars and admissions officers at higher education institutions.
Harris, an associate vice president in the university's Division of Student Affairs, is this year's selection for the Distinguished Service Award of the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. She is a former president of the organization.
Established in 1986, SACRAO represents more than 3,100 individuals and some 600 two- and four-year schools in a 13-state region stretching from Virginia to Texas, and including Puerto Rico.
A member of the Mississippi State administration since June 2004, Harris is responsible for admissions, enrollment services, and financial aid and scholarships at the state's largest university.
Before coming to MSU, she was assistant vice president for academic affairs at the University of Alabama. Previous to that, she was responsible for U.A.'s undergraduate admissions and financial aid.
Harris holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Clemson University and a doctorate from Louisiana State University.
In addition to being educated at Clemson, she has served as the South Carolina university's assistant admissions director. At LSU, she was dean of undergraduate admissions. She also was coordinator of high school relations at the University of Tennessee.
