STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State's student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering is a third-place finisher in national competition sponsored by the professional organization.
The university group, which includes more than 100 mechanical engineering majors, recently earned the ranking in ASME's annual Ingersoll-Rand Inter-Regional awards competition, which recognizes outstanding activities and leadership.
The achievement represented the MSU group's first national award after frequently winning the Region XI competition, which includes about 30 Southeastern universities. Only two--North Carolina State and Virginia Tech--scored higher than MSU in the national competition.
Current ASME section officers include chairman Matt Jones, a senior from Clinton; vice chair Jennifer L. Inghram, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala.; secretary Jeremy L. Mowry, a senior from West Point; treasurer Walter D. McDuffie, also a senior from Clinton; and Ingersoll-Rand coordinator Justin M. Crapps, a senior from Florence, Ala.
