STARKVILLE, Miss.--The music of Czech Republic and American composers will entwine during a public recital next week at Mississippi State.

Pianist Jackie Edwards-Henry and flutist Lana Johns, both faculty members in the university's music education department, will perform at the Feb. 10 program to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater. Several works resulting from Johns' research in the Eastern European nation will be featured.

General admission is $5; MSU students are admitted free with valid identification.

"The concert reflects our specialization in the music of contemporary American and Czech composers," Edwards-Henry explained. "All of the works by American composers were performed on our 2003 invited concert at the Prague Conservatory."

The program will include "Concerto in D Major" by Josef Myslivecek, "Rafflesia: Colossal Flower of the Rain Forest" by Benjamin Boone, "Sonata for Flute and Piano" by Verne Reynolds, "Prelude for a Familiar Tune" by former MSU faculty member Douglas McConnell, "Panamody for Flute and Piano" by Sylvie Bodorova, and "Grand Mamou for Flute and Piano" by Paul Hayden.

The two MSU artists formed the Johns, Edwards-Henry Duo in 2001 and soon will release a compact disc recording of their Czech selections.
