MSU Kappa Deltas announce March aid for child abuse victims

STARKVILLE, Miss.--A five-kilometer run/walk, Bunco tournament and cheesecake sale are among fund-raising efforts planned for early next month by Mississippi State's Kappa Delta social sorority.

The 23rd annual KD Shamrock Events continues the university group's support for the Sally Kate Winter Memorial Children's Home. The West Point residence for child-abuse victims will receive 80 percent of the proceeds, with the remainder going to Prevent Child Abuse America, the sorority's national philanthropy.

The 5K Shamrock n' Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. on March 5 at the Starkville Sportsplex, 405 Lynn Lane. The $20 entry fee will include an event T-shirt.

The Bunco tournament on the 6th gets under way at 1 p.m. in MSU's Leo Seal M-Club Building. The entry fee is $25 for individuals; $20 each for groups of four or more.

Throughout Shamrock 2005, which concludes on the 8th, chapter members will be selling various selections from the Columbus-based Jubilations Cheesecake Co. Available brand flavors include Dreamy Milk Chocolate, Key Lime, Ominous Oreo, Southern Caramel Pecan, Cheesecake Supreme, and Sugar-Free Vanilla.

Other activities include a pancake dinner, faculty appreciation cookout and a dinner with Winter Home residents.

Founded in 1897, the national Kappa Delta sorority has aided child-abuse prevention programs since the early 1980s. To date, its various chapters have raised a total of more than

$6 million in support.
