STARKVILLE, Miss.--A pianist who has received acclaim as a recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral soloist will present a Monday [Jan. 31] public concert at Mississippi State University.
Constance Carroll, emeritus professor of keyboard studies at Louisiana State University, is the featured artist for the Jean B. Taylor Memorial Concert sponsored by the music education department.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance in McComas Hall theater are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Mississippi State students will be admitted free with valid student identification.
Carroll's program will include selections from Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, and Liszt.
Artist-in-residence for Century College (La.) for more than two decades, Carroll in 1996 became the first Barineau Professor of Keyboard Studies at LSU, where she earlier was on the faculty. LSU honored her in 2001 with an Excellence in Teaching Award.
She has won numerous awards and honors at national and international competitions, including the Naumburg Competition, the Young Artist Competition of the National Federation of Music Clubs, the Brevard Music Festival Young Artist Award, and the Maria Canals International Competition for Piano in Barcelona, Spain.
In addition to her university teaching duties, Carroll also has served on the summer faculties of the University of Houston High School Piano Camp, New Orleans Institute of Performing Arts Keyboard Festival, Brevard Summer Music Festival, and University of Kansas Piano Institute.
