An online reference tool highlighting the "best" information sources is citing a reference tool of the Mississippi State University Libraries.
Infography, which provides a list of "superlative" sources for a host of subjects rated by experts, is praising the library's United Nations Research Guide. Developed by the Springfield, Vt.-based "Fields of Knowledge," the Web site said MSU is providing a "superlative source" of online information about the international body.
The MSU library was designated in 2001 as a U.N. depository--the only one in the state.
Accessed at http://library.msstate.edu/resources/guides/unitednations.asp , the reference is "designed to assist researchers and students in gaining access to U.N. materials in MSU's collections and databases, as well as those available on the Internet," said LaDonne Delgado. As coordinator of the library's government documents and microforms department, she should know--she developed it.
The source listing is annotated, providing a brief description of each source's focus and scope.
"Among those who select the sources included in Infography are professors, librarians and other scholars who tend to know the finest sources on a topic," explained Deborah Lee, coordinator of the library instruction department. "They select only those sources considered 'seminal' for research."
MSU's United Nations Research Guide covers a number of broad categories, including system of organizations; background and history; current awareness; and indexes and databases.
Also available are directories, statistical information and research guides.
