Mississippi State's new Guitar Ensemble will present a Dec. 1 concert featuring a range of selections from the classical "Nutcracker Suite" to the Eagles' pop classic "Hotel California."
Under the direction of classical guitarist Michael Patilla, the seven-person university group formed this semester will perform at 7 p.m. in the Colvard Union's Dawg House Coffee Shoppe. A number of jazz selections also will be included in the free program.
Ensemble members include Miles R. Byrd of Louisville, a freshman electrical engineering major; Lucas B. Carr of Lawrence, a senior computer science major; Jared B. Doner of Bailey, a junior music education major; Thomas B. "Brad" Holley of Marietta, Ga., a senior music education major; Jacob T. "Jake" McNatt of Milan, Tenn., a senior accounting major; David G. Marsh of Jackson, a senior civil engineering major; and Charles W. "Charlie" Wilder of Ocean Springs, a senior educational psychology major.
Patilla, a department of music education lecturer, is a graduate of the University of Rochester's prestigious Eastman School of Music. He has received major recognitions for performances at the Volos International Guitar Competition in Greece and the Italian International Guitar Competition.
