A public concert Monday [Nov. 1] at Mississippi State will feature four choral groups presenting classical, folk, and contemporary selections.
The 7:30 p.m. program in Colvard Union ballroom is sponsored by the university's music education department.
The 100-voice MSU Concert Choir will be joined by the smaller Chamber Choir, Women's Chorale and newly formed Men of Maroon and White. Bruce Lesly, interim director of choral activities, leads all but the Women's Chorale, which is directed by professor Linda Karen Smith.
Selections for the evening include Mendelssohn's "Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord" from "Elijah"; "The Lord is My Shepherd," from John Rutter's "Requiem"; "Trois Chansons de Charles D'Orleans," by Claude Debussy; "Can't Buy Me Love," by John Lennon and Paul McCartney; and the traditional "Down in the Valley."
"Each choir will perform a wide range of selections that should appeal to all musical tastes," Lesly said.
