The Southeast's top high school seniors will be recognized by Mississippi State during a Sept. 18 all-day program at the university.

Sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association and organized by the Office of Enrollment Services, 2004 Scholars' Recognition Day begins with registration in the Colvard Union lobby. This year's activities are being held in connection with the MSU Bulldogs' 6 p.m. home football game against the University of Maine Black Bears.

Students with high American College or Scholastic Aptitude test scores recently received invitations from the university. All have achieved either a composite ACT score of at least 24 (out of a maximum 36) or the equivalent SAT score of 1170.

Some 550 students and parents took part in last year's program.

Morning activities will include a continental breakfast at the Colvard Union's Dawg House Coffee Shop, a general assembly in the union's ballroom and lunch in Perry Cafeteria.

During the afternoon, students--and parents--will meet with administrators and faculty members of academic colleges in their areas of interest. Representatives of various campus support and service offices also will discuss opportunities for the academically talented.

At afternoon's end, scholars and parents will be treated to a Drill Field barbecue and, later, welcomed as special guests at the football game.
