Alternative rock band Better than Ezra returns to Mississippi State for a Sept. 18 free concert sponsored by the university's Interfraternity Council.
The New Orleans-based trio whose music has appeared in Billboard Magazine's Top 100 hits will perform 10 p.m.-midnight at the MSU Amphitheater. The concert follows the Bulldogs' football game with the University of Maine that begins at 6 p.m. in nearby Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.
"We wanted to bring one of the top regional bands to Starkville and to offer something that could appeal both to students and fans attending the game," said IFC secretary Cory Carter of Brandon. "It's our way of giving something back to the university and the community."
BtE includes guitarist Kevin Griffin, bassist Tom Drummond and drummer Travis McNabb. "Desperately Wanting," "King of New Orleans" and "Conjunction Junction" are among the group's most popular hits.
Formed in 1987, the group has built a loyal following at MSU and other college campuses throughout the Southeastern United States. Part of the 2004 summer tour, the Starkville concert takes place between appearances at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and a two-night stand at Baton Rouge's Varsity Theater.
Other MSU concert sponsors include the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Northeast Mississippi Coca-Cola Bottling Co., MSU Alumni Association, and Residence Hall Association.
The IFC is the governing body for MSU's 13 social fraternities. The organization recently helped lead fund raising for a new flagpole mount on the Drill Field, among other public service activities.
