A visiting scholar at Mississippi State's Institute for Neurocognitive Science and Technology is the winner of a prestigious research award in his native South Korea.

Young Woo Sohn recently received the 2004 Kim Jae II Young Korean Scholar Award from the Korean Psychological Association, based on research achievements and research impact in Korea. A friend accepted the award on his behalf.

A committee made up of prominent KPA members made the determination for the award, which also includes a monetary prize of about $1,000. Each of the association's 10 divisions submits one candidate for consideration of the award. Sohn was nominated by the organization's industrial psychology division.

"We feel fortunate and honored to have Dr. Sohn visiting INST," said psychology professor Stephanie Doane, director of the MSU institute.
