A renowned Stanford University authority in laser chemistry will discuss his strategies for successful research Tuesday [Aug. 31] in a public presentation at Mississippi State.
Richard N. Zare, the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science at Stanford, will be the featured speaker at the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Lecture Series.
His address, titled "Working Backwards: Strategies for Success in Research," begins at 7 p.m. in the Eastman Auditorium of the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering.
Zare is recognized for his research in the area of laser chemistry, resulting in a greater understanding of chemical reactions at the molecular level. His development of laser induced fluorescence as a method for studying reaction dynamics has been widely adopted in other laboratories.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Zare received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics in 1961, and a doctorate in chemical physics in 1964, both from Harvard University. He has authored or co-authored four books and more than 650 publications, and holds more than 50 patents.
