A Mississippi State faculty member is the new editor of a worldwide journal serving the real estate industry.

William G. Hardin III holds the Robert W. Warren Chair of Real Estate in the university's College of Business and Industry. He recently began a five-year term leading the Journal of Real Estate Practice and Education, one of four American Real Estate Society publications produced for its professional membership.

"Through articles by leading educators and practitioners, the journal seeks to promote research in real estate practice and excellence in teaching," Hardin said.

Founded in 1985, ARES represents some 1,100 practicing professionals and real estate professors at colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. Its other publications include the journals of Real Estate Research, Real Estate Literature and Real Estate Portfolio Management.

Hardin also recently was appointed to the editorial review panel of Appraisal Journal, the primary publication of the Chicago-based Appraisal Institute, an organization devoted to real estate education, appraisal and advocacy.

"The Appraisal Journal has nearly 22,000 subscribers and deals with a variety of issues," Hardin said. Among topics in recent issues are law and the appraiser, preservation issues, "green" buildings, market value, risk analysis, and international appraising, he explained.

In addition to teaching a variety of real estate courses in the business college, he coordinates its real estate and construction management programs, among other duties.

An MSU faculty member since 1998, he holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's in international business studies from the University of South Carolina, and master's and doctoral degrees in real estate from Georgia State University. He also has nine years of financial institution work experience.
