Mike S. Adams, whose new book skewers what he views as political correctness at American universities, will speak Thursday [May 27] at Mississippi State.

A Columbus native and MSU graduate, Adams is author of "The Ivory Tower of Babel," which already is in a second printing after being released earlier this month by Harbor House Publishers of Augusta, Ga.

His 1:30 p.m. public presentation will be held in the second-floor conference room of the sponsoring Social Science Research Center. An MSU research and service unit, the center is located adjacent to campus in the Thad Cochran Research and Technology Park.

A 1993 MSU doctoral graduate, Adams currently teaches criminal justice at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. His book, subtitled "Confessions of a Conservative College Professor," has led to his televised appearances on Fox Network's "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Hannity and Colmes."

A self-described former Democrat and atheist who now is a Republican and Christian, Adams organized his 200-page publication as a series of short essays, most dealing with events on his own campus. He became a vocal critic of the higher education diversity movement following a highly publicized post-9/11 incident at UNC-Wilmington which he felt challenged his own free speech.

In the foreword to "Babel," he acknowledges David L. McMillen, MSU psychology professor emeritus, as one former teacher who allowed diversity of opinions in his classroom.

McMillen, who is to introduce Adams at the program, said that, despite the title, "'Ivory Tower of Babel' is more about hypocrisy, intolerance and constitutional rights than about conservatism."

For more information about the program, telephone McMillen at (662) 325-3936.
