MSU piano concert to feature two faculty virtuosos

A March 6 recital at Mississippi State will feature two members of the piano faculty performing selections that range from classical sonatas to a tango for four hands.

The free 7:30 p.m. program by Jackie Edwards-Henry and Rosangela Sebba will feature both duo and solo performances in the McComas Hall theater.

Selections include Mozart's "Sonata in C for Four Hands"; Chopin's "Ballade in F Minor, Op. 52"; Ronaldo Miranda's "Tango for Piano for Four Hands" (unpublished); Francisco Mignone's "Congada for Piano, Four Hands"; Liszt's "Concert Study No. 3 'Un Sospiro'"; and Dvoark's "Slavonic Dances for Piano, Four Hands."

Edwards-Henry will perform as a soloist for Chopin's "Ballade"; Sebba, for Liszt's 'Un Sospiro.'"

Jackie Edwards-Henry is professor of piano and piano pedagogy and director of MSU's annual Piano Showcase. In addition to university responsibilities, she is an active performer and the current vice president of the Mississippi Music Teachers Association.

Edwards-Henry has performed throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. She was among musicians featured on a 2002 compact disc, "Saxophone and Other Voices."

Sebba, assistant professor of piano and theory, frequently writes about South American and Brazilian music for newspapers and magazines in her native Brazil. A frequent lecturer and performer of Brazilian music at national and international conferences, she is the founder of MSU's annual Brazilian Music Festival.

She has served as an accompanist for master classes by such artists as Wynton Marsalis, Emerson String Quartet and Leontyne Price, as well as for colleagues throughout the South.
