The black-and-white photograph of a Brandon student at Mississippi State is among a select group chosen for an international exhibition in Las Vegas.

Adam P. Jones simultaneously is pursuing a master's degree in landscape architecture and a bachelor's in art/sculpture at the university.

Jones' "Pan Motion" was among those featured last week at the Photo Imaging Education Association's 2004 Student-Teacher Conference. It was among some 4,200 entries received for judging from more than 100 schools in seven countries.

Jones' work and the other winning photographs now become part of two exhibitions that will travel this year and next throughout the United States, Australia, Canada, Italy, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

"Adam took a basic introductory assignment and created an image that received international recognition," said professor Marita Gootee. "The selection of 'Pan Motion' demonstrates the quality of our students' work and is quite an honor both for Adam and MSU."

Gootee, who heads the art department's photography program, said the Nevada conference drew more than 30,000 participants from all levels of professional photography and the education programs supporting the artistic field.

Jones' honor is the second in recent weeks for the photography program. Earlier, senior graphic design major Emily E. Strong of Forest had a black-and-white photograph selected for inclusion in CMYK magazine's 2004 Student Work Showcase, a national publication. Based in New York City, the publication seeks to feature the best work of students in advertising, design, photography, and illustration.
