For the 21st year, Kappa Delta social sorority at Mississippi State is sponsoring its Shamrock Event in early March to raise money in support of child-abuse prevention.

The university chapter is organizing:

--A golf tournament on the 6th to begin at 8 a.m. at the MSU Golf Course and;

--A five-kilometer run to start at 2 p.m. on the 7th from the KD House on Sorority Row.

Both athletic challenges are open to all comers.

"Eighty percent of funds collected from the activities will remain in the Golden Triangle area, specifically the Sally Kate Winters Memorial Children's Home in West Point," said Ashley Ivy of Starkville.

Ivy, the chapter's public relations vice president, said remaining funds will be forwarded to Prevent Child Abuse America, the national sorority's philanthropic endeavor.

Founded in 1897, Kappa Delta began supporting PCAA in the early 1980s. Since then, collegiate chapters have raised nearly $4 million through their annual Shamrock Events.
