Everette R. Nelson of Vicksburg (l) is the new Outstanding Young Alumnus of Mississippi State University. A 1999 business graduate now serving as president of the Warren County chapter of the MSU Alumni Association, he recently received the honor at the association's annual leadership conference on campus. Since assuming the leadership position in 2002, he has guided the chapter to surpass all others in scholarship development for local students attending MSU. Nelson, who works as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration, was presented the award by alumni association president Gary Blair of Brookhaven.

Another Vicksburg resident was among others honored at the 2004 alumni association conference. Samuel T. Stacy, who was unable to attend, was recognized with a distinguished service award.

In the Warren County alumni chapter, Stacy is a member of the board of directors and a former vice president and secretary-treasurer. He long has been active in developing local support for scholarships and university programs.

A civil engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Stacy received bachelor's and master's degrees in 1983 and 1988, respectively.
