Rock-climbing and volleyball will be among exercise activities available free Feb. 7 to young women 6-18 years old.

"Girls' Sports Day" is being sponsored at Mississippi State University by the recreational sports department, in conjunction with the department of athletics. The 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. program takes place at the Joe Frank Sanderson Center, with lunch provided.

Preregistration is being held through Jan. 30. Participants should wear or bring athletic clothing and shoes.

"Our goal is to provide a fun, healthy and exciting day that encourages physical activity," said Janelle Warner, a graduate student who is helping coordinate the event. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children, she added.

Warner said aerobics activities will be conducted by Sanderson staff members, while mini-clinics in volleyball and soccer will be led by players and staff of the varsity athletic teams.

As an added bonus, registrants will receive complimentary tickets to two Lady Bulldog athletic events: a 2 p.m. home softball game that day with Jackson State University and a 1 p.m. home basketball game the following day [Feb. 8] with the University of Mississippi.
