Mississippi State will recognize the Southeast's top high school seniors during an all-day program Oct. 4.

Students with high American College or Scholastic Aptitude test scores recently received invitations from the university. All have achieved either a composite ACT score of at least 26 (out of a maximum 36) or the equivalent SAT score of 1170.

Sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association and organized by the Office of Enrollment Services, the 2003 Scholars Recognition Day begins with registration in the Colvard Union lobby. Morning activities include a continental breakfast at the State Fountain, campus tours, a general assembly in the union ballroom, and visits with administrators and faculty in the various academic colleges.

In addition, representatives of the University Honors Program, Office of Research, Schillig Leadership Scholars Society, and Presidential Endowed Scholars Program will discuss special campus opportunities for the academically talented during a gathering in the union ballroom. Participants also will hear presentations on student financial aid and scholarships, student life, campus housing and residence life, as well as assistance available from the Office of Information Technology Services.

An ice cream social at the Gathering Park and a tailgate party at the MSU Amphitheater will round out the afternoon activities.

Visiting scholars conclude the day as special guests for the Southeastern Conference football game with Vanderbilt University at Davis Wade Stadium.
