Late week MSU theater production launches school-year season

The 2003-04 theater season of Mississippi State's communication department begins Thursday and Friday [Sept. 18 and 19] with a homegrown improvisational production.

"Improvisational Magic," which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McComas Hall laboratory theater, features the university's own Ironman Repertory Co. troupe. Filled with surprises and laughs, the show is recommended for mature audiences.

Admission for this and other season events are $5 for MSU students, faculty and staff, as well as all senior citizens; $10 for others.

Subsequent productions scheduled for the school year include (by date and time):

--Oct. 16-18, 7:30 p.m., "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," Tom Stoppard's 1966 award-winning comedy. McComas Hall main theater.

--Oct. 23 and 24, 7:30 p.m., "A Work in Progress." Written by senior Matthew Webb, a communication/broadcast and theater major from Amite, La., "Work" is MSU's entry for the state round of the American College Theater Festival competitions. McComas Hall main theater and recommended for mature audiences.

--Nov. 20 and 21, 7 p.m., "Clown's Play" by Reginald Bain. An improvisational production based around "Jack and the Beanstalk" and highlighted with audience participation by children of all ages. McComas Hall main theater.

--Feb. 26-28, 7:30 p.m., New Play Reading. The culmination of rehearsals and rewrites known as the "workshop process," the work is written by Harrison S. Key, a published playwright and new member of the departmental faculty.
