The works of two senior graphic design majors at Mississippi State, along with that of a recent graduate, are being recognized in national design publications.
A theater promotion poster by Eric M. Stars of Tupelo is a selection for CMYK, a quarterly publication featuring the works of top students as determined by a jury of design industry professionals.
Adam P. Howard of Florence, Ala., is Student Merit Award winner in a challenge sponsored by HOW magazine. His entry is among nine student pieces and 153 professional designs chosen for HOW's Self-Promotion Design Annual, scheduled for release next month. The 2003 competition drew more than 3,000 entries.
In addition to the two currently enrolled students, Michael D. McDaniel Jr., a 1999 graduate from Hazlehurst, is a Step 100 Winner in competition sponsored by the publication Step Inside Design. The bi-monthly annually recognizes 100 professionals as "Best in their Field" among peers throughout the United States.
Jamie Mixon is the graphic design coordinator in MSU's art department. Other faculty members include Patrick Miller, Jamie Runnells, Ellen Knudson, and Erin Norwood.
Established in 1968, the university's art department long has been home to the largest studio program of its kind in the state. It also supports a very active student chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
