MSU announces major dates for 2003 fall semester

Classes for the fall semester at Mississippi State University begin Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Campus housing opens for residency at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. For all who didn't attend the June sessions, orientation for new students is scheduled on the 19th.

Aug. 18 and 19 will be the final days to complete regular registration and pay tuition and fees. Late registration continues through the 26th.

Other major dates for the school year's first semester include:

--Sept. 1, Labor Day holiday [university closed].

--Sept. 5, investiture of J. Charles Lee as MSU's 17th president.

--Oct. 4, High School Scholars' Recognition Day, in conjunction with the Vanderbilt University football game.

--Oct. 11, Homecoming festivities for alumni and friends, along with "Discovery: MSU" activities for prospective students, both in conjunction with the University of Memphis football game.

--Nov. 24-28, fall class break for students [campus administrative offices will be open on the 24th-26th].

--Nov. 27 and 28, Thanksgiving holidays [university closed].

--Dec. 2, last day for all new students to apply for 2004 spring semester admission.

--Dec. 13, fall commencement exercises.

New student orientation for the 2004 spring semester will be held Jan. 9, with second-semester classes beginning on the 12th. Spring commencement is May 8.
