Larry and Judy Grillot of Diamondhead are establishing a scholarship endowment for physics majors in the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State University.
Larry Grillot, a Crystal Springs native, graduated from MSU in 1968 with a bachelor of science degree in physics. After completing a doctorate in geological sciences at Brown University, he began a 30-year professional career with Phillips Petroleum Co.
He retired in February of this year after holding a variety of assignments in the areas of oil and gas exploration, research and development, and general management.
Grillot and his wife, the former Judith Edwards of North Carolina, were married in 1969, not long after he left MSU. They are the parents of two daughters, Lauren and Leslie.
The Grillot Scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time freshman physics major. Applicants must be enrolling for the first time with a 25 or higher American College Test composite score and a high school grade-point average not lower than a 3.0 (on a 4-point scale). Preference will be given to Mississippi residents.
As an open fund in the Mississippi State University Foundation, the Grillot Scholarship may be increased through additional contributions. For more information, contact Amy Cagle at (662) 325-1006.
