For students and others who absolutely, positively cannot come to the Mississippi State campus for summer school, the university now offers a distance-learning option.

Coordinated by the Division of Continuing Education, the new Summer Online Program provides more than 20 academic courses taught by MSU faculty members in areas ranging from art appreciation and human anatomy to physics and instructional technology.

A complete listing may be found at www.distance.msstate.edu. Many begin May 28 and conclude Aug. 1, though some five-week classes also are included.

"We have worked with academic departments throughout campus to develop both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses for those who must be away from the university during the summer," said Laura Crittenden, interim manager of credit studies.

"We believe the continuing education Web site provides a most convenient way to browse subjects, instructors and fees related to each offering," she added.

With interest already shown in the online program, Crittenden said the division likely will expand academic options in the future.
