To promote reading to children ages 4 and 5, a Mississippi State University program is enlisting the help of campus administrators and Mother Goose.
A Children's Reading Conference Wednesday [April 2] will feature guest readers sharing some of their favorite books with approximately 60 area kindergarten students, each of whom will receive a book to take home.
Among those taking part in the 8:30-11:30 a.m. event in the Mitchell Memorial Library auditorium are MSU first lady Pat Lee, President Emeritus Donald W. Zacharias, College of Education Dean Roy H. Ruby, Dean of Libraries Frances N. Coleman, and Louis Rowles, curriculum coordinator for the Nettleton Public Schools.
Bully, the MSU mascot, and Columbus resident Edwina Williams, known for her portrayal of the classic nursery rhyme character Mother Goose, also will be involved.
The annual event is sponsored by the university's Student Reading Council, department of curriculum and instruction and Phi Delta Kappa education honor society.
