Professor Walter J. Diehl III and senior Parker Y. Wiseman

Professor Walter J. Diehl III and senior Parker Y. Wiseman of Starkville are the 2003 HEADWAE Faculty and Student Member of the Year at Mississippi State University. The honors are given as part of the Mississippi Legislature's annual Higher Education Appreciation Day/Working for Academic Excellence program. Diehl, a biological scientist, is president of the Robert Holland Faculty Senate, while Wiseman, a political science major, is president of the Student Association. They and the 72 other honorees from 37 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges recently were honored in Jackson.

Diehl, an MSU faculty member since 1986 and the faculty senate's vice president last year, is a specialist in evolutionary biology and physiological ecology. He holds a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of South Florida.

Wiseman is a John C. Stennis Scholar in Political Science who served last year as SA vice president. During the 2002-03 school year, he was elected Mr. MSU and selected for membership in Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. He is a Starkville High School graduate and the son of Dr. and Mrs. Marty Wiseman.
