.--"Humanities Computing: A Federation of Disciplines" will be the topic of a public program Tuesday [March 25] at Mississippi State University.
Led by George Welling of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, the program begins at 2 p.m. in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library. Welling is a member of the school's department of alfa-informatica.
Alfa-informatica applies computational methods to the study of language, history and culture, integrating theory, experimentation and practical application. The curriculum essentially is a merger of computer science and the humanities.
Welling's visit is co-sponsored by MSU's Institute for the Humanities, English and history departments, University Honors Program, and the Mississippi Quarterly.
