.--"Insurance at the Crossroads" will be the theme April 23 for Mississippi State University's 2003 Mississippi Insurance Day.

Sponsored for the past 16 years by the College of Business and Industry's Peter K. Lutken Chair of Insurance, the daylong event includes a series of continuing education sessions led by professionals and others involved in the insurance industry. Company attorneys, claims adjusters and agents, as well as fire investigators, legislators, municipal and county managers, and law enforcement officials, are among those who regularly attend.

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale, along with Ernst Csiszar and Alfred W. Gross, his respective counterparts in South Carolina and Virginia, will discuss the current insurance climate during the 8:45 a.m. opening program at the Wise Center auditorium.

They will be followed at 10 by a two-part hour-long examination of national tort reform and litigation struggles. "Lawsuit Mania: When Does It End?" is the title of remarks to be given by William E. Bailey of the Boston-based Insurance Information Institute. Dave Golden of the National Association of Independent Insurers in Des Plains, Ill., will conclude with a review of various tort reform situations around the country.

Sid Salter, Perspective editor of the Clarion-Ledger, addresses the noon awards luncheon. The MSU graduate and veteran journalist will review pertinent legislative issues.
