The ambassador of Jordan to the United States and Mexico will be in Jackson Thursday, February 20, to address the latest meeting of the Executive Lecture Forum. Kamin Kawar's one-day visit to the state is sponsored by the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies at Mississippi State University.
"The Middle East Crisis: Jordanian Perspective" will be the topic of his presentation for the University Club program that begins at 11:45 a.m. Though not a public event, the program is open to all interested members of the news media.
A key American ally, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a stable constitutional monarchy of more than 5 million people surrounded by some of the world's most volatile tinder boxes--the bordering nations of Israel, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.
Kawar assumed his current diplomatic duties last July. Raised in the Jordanian capital of Amman, he holds a master's degree in management, finance and computer science from Boston College in Massachusetts.
Before entering public service, Kawar was a recognized pioneer in the development of Jordan's information and communication technology sector. At age 20, he established his first company and headed an umbrella group that included 10 information system and software companies.
Prior to addressing the ELF, Kawar is scheduled to meet with officials of the Mississippi Development Authority and, later, with Gov. Ronnie Musgrove. He also will tour the capitol.
