Glenn L. McCullough Jr., the Mississippi State alumnus now serving as chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority, will speak Thursday [Jan. 30] at the university.

The 1977 agricultural economics graduate, a native and former mayor of Tupelo, inaugurates the 2003 spring schedule of the Morris W.H. "Bill" Collins Jr. Speaker Series. Open to all, McCullough's presentation begins at 3 p.m. in the John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library.

Now in its third year, the campus and community public affairs program is named for the first director of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government, which sponsors the events in collaboration with the library's Congressional and Political Research Center and the student John C. Stennis-G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Association.

Former Gov. William F. Winter will be the next speaker on March 6.

McCullough was appointed head of TVA's board of directors by President George W. Bush. He had been serving on the governing body of the nation's largest public power company since his 1999 appointment by President Bill Clinton.

While a student at MSU, McCullough was a member of the varsity cheerleader squad and Elder Statesman leadership honor society.
