Flutist Lana Johns and percussionist Robert J. Damm of Mississippi State perform Sunday [Nov. 3] as part of the music education department's 2002-03 Faculty Recital Series.

General admission tickets are $5 each for the 3 p.m. recital in the Bettersworth Auditorium of Giles Hall. MSU students are admitted free with identification.

The program will feature "Prelude No. 1 for Flute and Marimba," "Variations for Flute and Percussion," "Four Vivaldi Seasons," "Vocalise," and "Introduction and Rondo." Also scheduled are a solo by Johns of J.S. Bach's "Sonata in A Minor" and a solo by Damm of "I Remember."

The duo has performed together for the past three years at venues from Mississippi to Georgia to Missouri. Their efforts represent a shared interest in and devotion to flute and percussion music from around the world.

During the weekend performance, Johns and Damm will premiere "Springy Thingy," an improvisation exploring the timbres of several simple instruments, including the spring box, door stop box and thunder tube. They will conclude with "Kembang Suling," a programmatic work that provides three musical snapshots of Asia.

Tickets for the faculty recital season and the Faculty Gala concert also may be purchased at the door or from the music education department.
