PSC, MSU announce North Mississippi consumer workshops

Contact: Maridith Geuder

Two free workshops next week will provide information for both the general public and local officials on consumer problems and situations related to utilities, telecommunications and for-hire transportation.

The 9 a.m.-2 p.m. "Wise Consumer" programs will be held Tuesday [Aug. 13] in Oxford and Wednesday [the 14th] in Starkville. The first session takes place at the University of Mississippi's Yerby Center; the second at Mississippi State University's Wise Center auditorium. Both will follow the same format and provide the same information.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Bo Robinson and MSU's John C. Stennis Institute of Government are co-sponsoring the workshops to help Mississippians make more effective choices about everyday issues. The effort is part of an ongoing "Bringing It Home" consumer education campaign.

The Public Service Commission will be among nearly 30 state agencies presenting information on issues ranging from water quality to telecommunication fraud. Brief remarks by agency leaders or representatives will supplement materials presented in a series of information booths. Hourly door prizes will be awarded.
