Scenes of Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Mississippi by British painter Clive Pates are being featured for more than a month at Mississippi State.
The Aug. 21-Oct. 3 exhibition at the university art department's McComas Hall Gallery includes a landscape series by the Gloucestershire, England, native. When not teaching college art and design, Pates spends summers seeking new pastoral locations and has resided in Columbus for the past several months.
A 7-9 p.m. public reception on Thursday [Aug. 22] at the gallery will introduce Pates to the campus and Golden Triangle community. On Aug. 27, he also will discuss his work in landscapes and figures during a 12:45 p.m. public presentation sponsored by the University Honors Forum in 13 Allen Hall.
In addition to formal training at England's Cheltenham College of Art and Bristol Polytechnic, he has studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the New York Academy of Art and as an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant designate at Brooklyn's Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass Studio.
Located on the bottom floor of McComas Hall, the MSU art gallery is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. Special visits may be arranged by calling (662) 325-2970.
