A member of the United States Naval War College's strategic research department will discuss some major areas of international concern during a private luncheon next week in Jackson.
Ahmed S. Hashim's June 20 visit to the state is being sponsored by the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security Studies at Mississippi State University.
A leading authority on Middle Eastern, Central and South Asian security issues, Hashim will address the next Executive Lecture Forum when it gathers at 11:45 a.m. in the Capital Club. "The Three-Edged Sword of Damocles: Iraq, the Indian Subcontinent, Al-Qaeda, and the Threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction" is his topic.
While the program is not open to the general public, all interested representatives of the Mississippi news media are welcome to hear his remarks.
Hashim holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Warwick, England, and master's and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Prior to joining the Newport, R.I.-based war college, he held research positions at the Center for Naval Analyses in Alexandria, Va., and the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. He holds the rank of colonel in the United States Army.
